The initiative brought together professionals from different hospital departments for a moment of knowledge sharing on the blood culture process, from collection to microbiological identification.

Quilaban promoted, on 17th June, the first training session dedicated to blood cultures at Hospital do Outão, in Setúbal. The initiative, which also took place in online format, arose at the request of ULS da Arrábida and aimed to bring together professionals from different hospital departments to address essential aspects related to the blood culture process.

Under the theme “Collect well to diagnose better: The essentials of Blood Cultures”, the session was conducted by Cátia Piedade, applications specialist in the Clinical Diagnostics team at Quilaban. Throughout the training, different moments of the process were addressed, from collection to microbiological identification, promoting knowledge sharing and clarification of doubts among participants.

The initiative registered significant participation and a high level of involvement from the professionals present. The moment enabled discussion of day-to-day challenges, exchange of experiences and reinforcement of good practices associated with performing blood cultures in the hospital context.

Following the demonstrated interest, a second session is already planned for September, this time at Hospital de Setúbal. The continuation of this initiative reflects the importance attributed by healthcare professionals to training and update moments that support clinical and laboratory practice and contribute to an increasingly consistent approach to microbiological diagnostics.
