Quilaban and BD celebrate over 30 years of exclusive partnership in Portugal for microbiological diagnosis

Since 1993, Quilaban has represented BD (Becton Dickinson) in Portugal through an exclusive partnership in the field of Microbiology that has transformed laboratory diagnosis in dozens of hospitals and laboratories.

For more than three decades, Quilaban and BD (Becton Dickinson) have worked side by side in Portugal with a shared goal: to transform microbiological laboratory diagnosis and support healthcare professionals in responding to severe infections. In 2025, this partnership marks 32 years of continuous collaboration, defined by innovation and trust.

Quilaban has been BD’s exclusive representative in the Microbiology segment since 1993, starting with the BD BACTEC™ MGIT™* system, dedicated to the rapid detection of tuberculosis. Since then, the portfolio has grown and now includes benchmark solutions such as BD BACTEC™ FX* (automatic detection of positive blood cultures), BD Phoenix™ M50* (identification and antimicrobial susceptibility testing), BD Max™* (Molecular Biology platform with real-time PCR), as well as a wide range of culture media adapted to different pathogens.

The impact of this collaboration is evident across the country: more than 100 BD instruments are installed in over 60 Portuguese hospitals and laboratories, playing a crucial role in the diagnosis, monitoring and management of infections.
